Code of Conduct

Clubhouse is not just a gaming space but a community. Our goal is to be welcoming and inclusive and provide a safe and fun space for people of all backgrounds.

We do this using all types of board games, from your typical tabletop game to miniature games and role-playing games.

Our code of conduct reflects our ethos and is designed for our members to understand their roles and responsibilities so that they too can embody the Clubhouse ethos.

RESPECT OTHERS

Respect other members and new players. Treat other people with consideration and respect. This includes but is not limited to acknowledging and accepting boundaries, using appropriate language and giving other people opportunities for inclusion.

RESPECT CLUBHOUSE

Clubhouse is a community space and the materials and games are provided by the club’s owners and members. A lot of effort has gone into making and maintaining these resources and they’re there for everyone to use.  While accidents do happen, please try to look after our resources.

Food and drink not purchased in Clubhouse can not be consumed on the premises, unless stated.

Clubhouse is a no smoking / vaping building. If you wish to do this, please do so outside. There will be no smoking or vaping inside with no exceptions.

NO DISCRIMINATION

Nobody should be discriminated against for any reason. There is especially no space in Clubhouse for people who use discriminatory language or behaviours such as racism, homophobia, sexism, misogyny, ableism, transphobia, islamophobia, antisemitism and any others you could think to put on this list.

We mean it, even if you think you’re being edgy or ironic.

And yes, we understand that there are board games out there which overstep these boundaries and might themselves contain harmful language or stereotypes. There’s not much we can do about that except be mindful of it and not use it as an excuse to parrot or express those ideas.

KEEP IT FRIENDLY

Clubhouse is a friendly space and so are its games, even those which are meant to be competitive! Play with grace and kindness, accept defeat nobly and don’t go into games with the explicit intention to destroy everybody at the table, especially if you’re teaching your favourite game to new players!

You want people to keep playing with you, right?

HELP OTHERS

Clubhouse has members of all abilities and skills. Not everyone is as skilled or knowledgeable about board games and some people might be taking their first steps into the hobby.

Help people if they don’t understand the rules or don’t know which games would fit their interests and skill level. Don’t force a brand-new member into playing your favourite complex Eurogame if their only previous experience is Snakes and Ladders!

Remember, the more people who enjoy playing at Clubhouse, the more we grow the community.

DON'T CHEAT

We all make rules mistakes and that’s fine if you clarify those mistakes as soon as you can. What we don’t tolerate is deliberate cheating. Cheating does not represent the ethos of Clubhouse.

If there is a dispute about a rule, either come to a suitable and friendly compromise or find somebody who can adjudicate on your behalf.

KEEP IT APPROPRIATE

Please mind your language and behaviour and follow this Code of Conduct when using our public forums and social media (WhatsApp, Facebook, etc.).

As suggested by the name, these forums are just as public as our physical spaces and they can be visited and used by people who have just joined or are thinking about joining.

All of our forums and chat groups have a specific function and should be used only for that function. Anything else should be taken into a private group.

NO ILLEGAL ACTIVITY

Do not participate in or engage in illegal activities. Clubhouse is a Community Interest Company and not a private club. It has legal responsibilities.

Don’t put us in a position where we have to enforce those responsibilities.
